There are a plethora of warm weather destinations you can fly to from Miami on the cheap with British Airways Avios. The decision on where to go was made easy thanks to having lifetime Fairmont Platinum status. The Fairmont Riviera Maya has been calling my name for some time now. We flew from Miami nonstop to Cancun from Sunday morning through Thursday afternoon in the last week of January. We got 4.5K Avios awards for myself, my wife, and our 2 kids. That’s a total of 36K Avios (about 25K AMEX points during the 40% bonus that was going on then) for the 4 round-trip tickets that would have cost upwards of $1,500 otherwise, an incredible use of miles. This is a long trip report but my philosophy on trip reports is to write everything on a destination in one shot as opposed to dragging it out into dozens of annoying installments. Posts like these take days to write so your feedback is appreciated!    It’s not much of a secret that I have a bit of a love affair with the Hawaiian islands. $87 was the cost for my hotel and airfare on my first trip in 2006. I’ve been back 5 times since. In this post I’ve included activities and pictures from 5 trips to Kauai. Why go back to the same place so many times? Follow my travels and more on Instagram @DansDeals The hottest plane ticket last year was for United flight 747 from San Francisco to Honolulu on November 7th. Premium cabin tickets sold out in minutes and coach sold out shortly after that. I grabbed 2 business class awards as soon as United announced in September that they would be holding a special final flight for their 747. I may not have been old enough to fly the Concorde, but I wasn’t going to miss this celebration. I have lots of fond 747 memories from childhood plane spotting, to first class cabins on airlines like Korean and Lufthansa, and to the amazing 747 trip I took with Rafi last year to San Francisco. United’s 747 is as iconic as they come, having flown its first flight from San Francisco to Honolulu back in 1970.
