Canada will ground all Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and ban these planes from our airspace until further notice, following a deadly Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday. The UK, the European Union and Australia have also temporarily banned the planes, and the United States followed suit after Transport Canada announced its decision. So what happens next? If you fly frequently or have a trip coming up, you may have already heard from your airline about any possible changes to your route. I know I received an email from WestJet as soon as the ban came into effect. WestJet has grounded all 13 of their Boeing MAX aircraft currently in service. To find out if you were scheduled to fly on one of them, check the flight details on their website or follow these instructions. Air Canada is also complying with Transport Canada's decision and is grounding all 24 of their Boeing MAX aircraft. In a news release, they say you can expect delays as they try to rebook passengers and deal with … [Read more...] about The Boeing 737 MAX Ban: What it Means in Canada

Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookWhile we don’t yet know the cause of the Ethiopian flight 302 tragedy, airlines across the world are grounding their 737 MAX fleets until they know that they are safe. Planes in the air are even being diverted to land as I write this post. North American airlines are the exception for now, as Air Canada, American, Southwest, United, and Westjet continue to operate them as normal. Boeing and the FAA insist that the airplane is safe to operate, though even Consumer Reports is calling on Boeing to ground the fleet worldwide. 2 fatal accidents within 5 months on a new plane is extremely rare. 3 fatal accidents within a year on the de Havilland Comet in the 1950s grounded that fleet and proved that it was not airworthy as designed. It is worth noting that the safety standards will vary by country. The captain of Ethiopian flight 302 was 29 years old and had 8,000 hours of flight time. The co-pilot had a scant 200 hours of … [Read more...] about The 737 MAX Is Being Grounded Around The World, Except For North America; Here’s What You Need To Know

Follow my travels and more on Instagram @DansDeals The hottest plane ticket last year was for United flight 747 from San Francisco to Honolulu on November 7th. Premium cabin tickets sold out in minutes and coach sold out shortly after that. I grabbed 2 business class awards as soon as United announced in September that they would be holding a special final flight for their 747. I may not have been old enough to fly the Concorde, but I wasn’t going to miss this celebration. I have lots of fond 747 memories from childhood plane spotting, to first class cabins on airlines like Korean and Lufthansa, and to the amazing 747 trip I took with Rafi last year to San Francisco. United’s 747 is as iconic as they come, having flown its first flight from San Francisco to Honolulu back in 1970. No other airline will hold a 747 celebration like United. 47 years later … [Read more...] about Trip Notes: The Final United 747 Flight And 2 Days In Maui
