Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookThe Business Platinum® Card from American Express is one of the most feature laden credit cards out there. Those features come at a cost though and the annual fee on the card recently went up from $450 to $595 per year as it added even more benefits. I’ll talk more about what those features are below. DansDeals will receive compensation if you are approved for a credit card via a link in this post. Yossi Goldstein asks via DDFB what he should do with his accumulated points if he wants to close his Business Platinum Card. If you have short-term travel plans that’s an easy question. Just figure out which airline will charge the fewest miles for your trip. But without travel plans, I hate preemptively transferring bank points into airline miles or hotel points. Bank points are far more versatile than miles as they can be used for paid travel or transferred to an airline for award travel. Plus … [Read more...] about Reader Question: What Should I Do With My AMEX Points If I Want To Close My Business Platinum Card?
Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookAs airlines and hotels continue to devalue their programs again and again, it becomes more and more obvious that putting your everyday spending on a co-branded card, like a Citi AA card, Chase United card, or Delta AMEX card, is foolish. Those cards offer nice benefits like free checked baggage and more that make them worth keeping, but other than the signup bonus, they don’t offer a compelling value for spending. You should not lock yourself into any single mileage currency if you can avoid it. Airlines and hotels are not loyal and don’t deserve your loyalty as it won’t be rewarded in kind. You can earn more points per dollar on everyday spending by using a card with transferable points like Chase Freedom Unlimited (Normally earning 1.5 points per dollar and currently offering 3 points per dollar for up to $20K in spending during the first 12 months on a new card signup), Chase Ink Unlimited ($500 signup … [Read more...] about Airline And Hotel Program Devaluations Prove Why Transferable Point Currencies Are Critical

American Express is a DansDeals.com advertiser. I’ve always been an advocate of using airline miles over proprietary points from banks. However the hits keep coming for airlines and the value of their miles. After gobbling up airlines like Airtran, Continental, Northwest, and USAirways, the remaining airlines have made it increasingly expensive to earn elite status, while reducing benefits at the same time. They have reduced hub service and capacity in order to raise airfares. They have stopped awarding miles for flights based on distance flown. Their cheapest fares will no longer include free carry-ons. They have all devalued their award charts, nearly doubling the cost of many awards: -United massively devalued their award chart in February 2014.-Delta removed their award charts from public view in February 2015. They have been stealthily making monthly devaluations since then, though their award availability has improved somewhat.-Southwest has made a number of devaluations to … [Read more...] about Are Bank Points Overtaking The Value Of Airline Miles? 2 Hybrid Cards Allow You To Lock In The Best Of Both Worlds
