Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookIt seems like a big company reports a data breach every other day. Last week I wrote about the Equifax data breach settlement. Capital One announced today that they experienced a breach that affected 100 million people in the US. 33 year old Paige Thompson has been arrested in connection with the breach. Capital One says that they believe it is unlikely that she disseminated the data or used it for fraud. No credit card account numbers or log-in credentials were compromised Over 99 percent of Social Security numbers were not compromised. Compromised information included data that Capital One collects at the time it receives credit card applications: Names, addresses, zip codes/postal codes, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, and self-reported income. Credit scores, credit limits, balances, payment history, contact information Fragments of transaction data from a total of 23 days during 2016, 2017 and 2018 About … [Read more...] about Step Right Up: Capital One Is The Latest To Report A Data Breach

Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookCompanies just can’t seem to keep our data safe. As long as the penalties are nothing more than a slap on the wrist, that won’t change either. Doordash announced that users who joined on or before 4/5/18 have had their information stolen. The stolen information includes names, email addresses, delivery addresses, order history, phone numbers, as well as hashed passwords. Full credit card numbers were not part of the breach. The driver’s licenses of 100,000 delivery workers were also breached. Doordash doesn’t believe that the hackers can access the passwords, but they’re encouraging people to change their passwords. I first wrote about DoorDash before 4/5/18, so check when you signed up, change your password, and as always, stay vigilant about checking your credit cards and credit report for fraud. … [Read more...] about Step Right Up: Doordash Is The Latest To Report A Data Breach

Hundreds of frequent flyer enthusiasts from forums like Flyertalk and Milepoint get together and fly around the world together and meet with various airline and hotel executives. Star of course refers to Star Alliance. A DO (pronounced like the word do or due) is simply a get-together while a MegaDo is a really big get together. Space to attend these events is always quite limited and there is a cost from $1,000 up to $5,000 depending on how much of the event you want to attend (domestic or international+domestic) and what class you’ll be sitting in on the plane. Participants were treated to flying a brand new United 787 Dreamliner among many other goodies. I was invited to attend the United portion of the DO in Chicago for free so that’s what I’ll talk about. … [Read more...] about Trip Report: United DO 2012 In Chicago
A few weeks ago I asked for your tips and got lots of them, so first of all thanks for your help! I incorporated many suggestions from there and the Argentina Master Thread on DDF for trip planning. -My wife and I and our 10 month old son have just arrived home on Wednesday afternoon from a week-long trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina. A city with lots to see, incredible Ice Cream and Dulce de Leche baked goods, and home to one of the best kosher restaurants I’ve ever been to. Here are some of my trip notes:Flight: -I used 125,000 AA miles for my wife’s First Class ticket from Cleveland to Buenos Aires. -For myself I used 4,500 BA miles to go from Cleveland to New York in coach, 75,000 BA miles for JFK to Buenos Aires in first, 75,000 BA miles for Buenos Aires to Miami in first, and 7,500 BA miles for Miami to Cleveland in coach, all on the same flights as my wife. -To book Rafi as a lap child when using AA miles would mean having to pay 10% of the regular $10,000 … [Read more...] about Trip Notes: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookWhile we don’t yet know the cause of the Ethiopian flight 302 tragedy, airlines across the world are grounding their 737 MAX fleets until they know that they are safe. Planes in the air are even being diverted to land as I write this post. North American airlines are the exception for now, as Air Canada, American, Southwest, United, and Westjet continue to operate them as normal. Boeing and the FAA insist that the airplane is safe to operate, though even Consumer Reports is calling on Boeing to ground the fleet worldwide. 2 fatal accidents within 5 months on a new plane is extremely rare. 3 fatal accidents within a year on the de Havilland Comet in the 1950s grounded that fleet and proved that it was not airworthy as designed. It is worth noting that the safety standards will vary by country. The captain of Ethiopian flight 302 was 29 years old and had 8,000 hours of flight time. The co-pilot had a scant 200 hours of … [Read more...] about The 737 MAX Is Being Grounded Around The World, Except For North America; Here’s What You Need To Know
