He asked where we were staying and I answered near Playa del Carmen. He said, that’s a shame. You’re going to have to drive all the way back to Cancun to pay the fine tomorrow in order to get back your license. With nothing to lose I asked if I could pay for the ticket on the spot. A big grin came to to his face and he asked how much I want to pay to take of things between us. I offered $20, he countered with $40. I had a $20 in my wallet and went back to the car to ask Mimi for a $5. I told him I had $25 and I got my license back without a ticket. In retrospect I’d have offered $10 and countered with $15 or $20. Definitely don’t keep more than $25 in your wallet when driving. The hotel is not on a beach, but does offer a complimentary beach butler service where they drive you to the beach and set you up with chairs, drinks, towels, and an umbrella. They failed to tell us that you need to reserve that 24 hours in advance, but they did offer to put all those goodies in the trunk of our car if we could wait an hour. However when we went to our car after an hour none of those items were in our car. The valet did get us those items when we asked for it and gave us directions to the beach. The beach he sent us to was rocky and uncomfortable looking (nothing like Huntington Beach) so we didn’t even wind up staying. If we had more time we would’ve driven down to La Jolla, but by then we had to drive to LA to stay by friends for the weekend. … [Read more...] about Trip Notes: Our SoCal Quasi-Mileage Run…
[AJK: This really was mind-boggling. When we heard the knock, barely seconds after putting the phone back in its cradle, we looked at each other and said, “it can’t be.” But it was! The only thing I can think is they must have attendants on-call, stationed in the elevators at all time, waiting for requests like this. Or the Japanese have figured out how to teleport. Neither would surprise me.] … [Read more...] about United Island Hopper Trip Notes Part 4: Tokyo, Japan And Back Home In ANA First Class
