My brother JJ and myself have been looking to fly to NYC for a meeting. He’s currently in Miami while I’m in Cleveland, so when Yaalili posted on DDF this past Tuesday that there was a Jetsmarter flight from Cleveland to NYC I jumped onto the app and noticed that there was also a Jetsmarter flight from West Palm Beach to NYC on Wednesday, so we held the flights and arranged to have a dinner meeting at Reserve Cut. … [Read more...] about Trip Notes: Flying Private To NYC And Tips For Dealing With Flight Delays And Cancellations
Fiji note trip
-Instead of renting a car and dealing with the traffic and parking costs we took a shuttle from the airport to the Park Hyatt Sydney. I booked the Sydney Airport Connect which now appears to be called AirBus Sydney because it was just $20 round-trip. You get what you pay for. We were the last stop and it took over 2 hours to finally get to our hotel. Once in the hotel I realized that I forgot one of my guidebooks in the shuttle but the company refused to contact the driver to look for the book. On the return trip home they showed up before their scheduled time and left without waiting even for 30 seconds as they pulled away just as got to the door. They refused to provide a refund or to come back and get us. Not a pleasant experience to say the least so avoid them at all costs. … [Read more...] about Round-The-World Trip Notes, Part 4: Sydney, Australia.
After eating it was time for an early bedtime – tomorrow was going to be a long, cold, and physically draining day. So it goes without saying that as soon as we were all settled and drifting off, I peeked out of the window and caught a glimmer of green in the sky. Experience has taught me that when you see the Aurora Borealis, you don’t waste time dawdling – you never know how long a display may last, and when a tiny glimmer will explode into an all-sky light show. We had made up earlier that if someone spots the aurora he would wake the others, and so I jumped out of bed, pulled my boots and coat over my pajamas, grabbed my camera and tripod and ran out of the house, all the while raising the alarm. … [Read more...] about DDF Adventure Photo DO Trip Notes Part 2: Svalbard And The High Arctic
Note by whYME: Among the mountain of food and gear Moishie lugged along, was one thing you wouldn’t expect on a photography adventure trip to the far north: a shtreimel. Aside from Moishies usual minhag of taking along a shtreimel on trips over Shabbos, he was not about to pass up the opportunity to likely be the first person ever to wear a shtreimel this far north. In the course of our unpacking, I picked up the shtreimel and joked that I would put it on and be the first one wearing a shtreimel in Svalbard. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone move as fast as Moishie jumping off the couch to snatch the shtreimel from my hands and ensure that he would indeed be the first. I’ve never seen a human shot out of a cannon, but I imagine Moishie launching off that couch is a good approximation 😁. … [Read more...] about Chasing Polar Bears In Svalbard: DDF Arctic Adventure Photo DO Trip Notes, Part 2
The Maitre D’ and waiter both pressed me to order the Beef Back Ribs, saying it’s by far the best thing they make. Until they had to sheepishly come back to let me know that they were out of them. Never a good idea to recommend things that strongly if you’re out of them… … [Read more...] about Trip Notes: A Quick Weekend Trip To Miami-December 2015
AJK then smartly asked Joseph if he wouldn’t mind changing the Tokyo-Chicago-Newark flight to the Tokyo-JFK nonstop. [AJK: When you get an agent as good as Joseph, you make sure to leave it all out on the floor 😛 ] ANA award space from Tokyo-Chicago is much easier to find then Tokyo-JFK, but as Joseph was rebooking us in a revenue fare class that didn’t matter at all. He happily rebooked us to the JFK flight and booked a connection from Newark-Cleveland for me with enough time to grab dinner in Manhattan along the way. … [Read more...] about United Island Hopper Trip Notes Part 2: It’s Time To Hop!
