Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookThe Business Platinum® Card from American Express is one of the most feature laden credit cards out there. Those features come at a cost though and the annual fee on the card recently went up from $450 to $595 per year as it added even more benefits. I’ll talk more about what those features are below. DansDeals will receive compensation if you are approved for a credit card via a link in this post. Yossi Goldstein asks via DDFB what he should do with his accumulated points if he wants to close his Business Platinum Card. If you have short-term travel plans that’s an easy question. Just figure out which airline will charge the fewest miles for your trip. But without travel plans, I hate preemptively transferring bank points into airline miles or hotel points. Bank points are far more versatile than miles as they can be used for paid travel or transferred to an airline for award travel. Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on Facebook2 weeks ago I wrote a comprehensive guide to Marriott’s travel packages explaining why they are so lucrative and what Marriott’s options are. They are currently an amazing way to get a ton of airline miles and a week in a hotel from your Starwood or Marriott points, so start by reading that post. On Friday, Marriott all but confirmed that they will be figuring out a way to map the existing packages to the new categories rather than refund any points as had been speculated due to several posts from Starwood Lurker, an official Starwood representative for online forums. That pretty much eliminates options 1 and 2 from the comprehensive guide. Note that you can purchase and attach travel certificates to hotels until 8/17, but you won’t be able to make any changes or new bookings from 8/18 until 9/18. I wouldn’t wait until the last minute as Marriott can stop selling these at any time. If you do want to make … [Read more...] about Marriott’s Remaining Travel Package Options: Will They Go With Points Or Category Based Certificates And What You Should Do Now
I got a nice surprise from AMEX in the mail today, a check for $305.70 to cover the return shipping charges on 6 return protection claims I made in the past. Return protection is one of the many fringe benefits that make AMEX cards awesome. If a store won’t accept a return on an item within 90 days of purchase you can file a return protection claim with AMEX. AMEX has a very easy to use Online Claims Center Return protection is awesome with retailers that have a 30 day, 14 day, or even non-existent return policy and it works great for final sale items as well. Return protection works for items that cost $300 or less and can be used to return up to $1,000 of items per card per year. If an item costs more than $300 you can still file a claim, but you would only be reimbursed for up to $300 (plus tax in my experience). If the item is under $100 AMEX will typically issue an immediate refund. If it’s between $100-$300 usually an … [Read more...] about I Just Got A $305.70 Check For Having Used One Of The Most Underrated Credit Card Fringe Benefits; A Roundup Of Awesome AMEX Protections

Cathay Pacific Is Honoring Their $675 Business/$845 First Class Asia To North America Tickets! Rules Of The Deal You Need To Know Before The Next Price Mistake A reader who purchased an $845 Cathay Pacific first class flight from DAD-HKG-JFK asked where he should credit his miles. I mentioned this briefly in the original post, but let’s elaborate a bit: Whenever you fly you can choose to credit the miles earned from the flight to the airline you fly or to a partner airline. For example an occasional El Al flyer will typically be better off crediting their flight to Qantas than to Matmid. The fare was valid from SGN, HAN and DAD to the US. The HAN-HKG flights were on partner airline Vietnam Air. The DAD-HKG flights were on partner airline Cathay Dragon. The SGN-HKG flights were on Cathay Pacific.
