I wrote about the trip on DansDeals and the response was overwhelming. We received thousands of inquiries about attending, though many of those were hoping to offer a service to come for free. We had requests from Rabbis, Doctors, Lawyers, Lecturers, Scientists, Babysitters, Massage Therapists, Bloggers, Instagramers, Influencers, Thought Leaders, a Yoga Instructor, and many more offering their services in exchange for a comped trip. Publications started pressing us to advertise our trip on their website or magazine. Now that may work on a cruise where prices are low and there are thousands of passengers, but it doesn’t work on a cruise that is planning on having just a dozen passengers to be feasible and make an awesome unprecendeted trip happen. … [Read more...] about Antarctica Trip Notes Part 1: Buenos Aires+Planning And Positioning For The Adventure Of A Lifetime
Trips about journeys
AJK was doing some work but I wasn’t about to stay indoors all day. [AJK: And, I knew I had to pay the fever piper, so it was either going to be at the expense of Guam or Palau. I chose the former, and thankfully, it turned out to be the right decision as the fever was completely gone by the time we took off for Palau. Ain’t no substitute for rest!] Guam isn’t known as an island with a lot to see or do. But the #1 activity in Guam is Ypao Beach which was within walking distance of the hotel. Well technically it was within walking distance. I didn’t realize that there would be a steep hill with no sidewalks whatsoever, but full of speeding drivers. After a rather harrowing walk though I made it to the beach: … [Read more...] about United Island Hopper Trip Notes Part 2: It’s Time To Hop!
Deck 1 has the engine room, which is off-limits to passengers. Deck 2 has the presentation room that we used as our shul. The ship set it up with a mechitza that was perfect for our needs. It also houses the ship’s infirmary. Deck 3 houses the triple cabins, as well as the mud rooms and zodiac boat exits from where we would change into boots and leave on Antarctic expeditions. Deck 4 has the twin cabins, the ship’s boutique, and the main dining room. Deck 5 has the superior and superior plus cabins, as well as the lounge, bar, and an aft observation deck. Deck 6 has the suites, the Bistro with its indoor and heated outdoor seating, the ship’s bridge, and an aft observation deck. Deck 7 has the pool, hot tub, exercise room, and the library with expansive views forward. Deck 8 is the main forward observation deck. Most decks have indoor and outdoor portions. During calm seas the outdoors were great, but it can get very windy and you’ll be glad for wearing lots of … [Read more...] about Antarctica Trip Notes Part 3: Diverted To The Falkland Islands!
We davened Mincha at 5:30pm, followed by a Shalosh Seudos of shnitzel, tuna salad, egg salad, and potato salad. I spoke for an hour about stories and lessons I’ve learned over the past 14 years of travelling and running DansDeals and then many people took a nap until Shabbos would end at 1:01am on Sunday morning. At that time we davened Maariv and made Havdalah without a candle or spices as it was already past sunrise on Sunday. … [Read more...] about Antarctica Trip Notes Part 4: Packing List, The Journey Down South, And The Southernmost Shabbos
The kosher meal consisted of 3 slices of frozen gefilte fish and some frozen excuse for cake. The flight attendant was so curt with me that it would even make some of the worst domestic flight attendants blush. When I asked for a drink I was told I had to wait until she was done serving all of the other passengers their full regular dinners and then she would get to me. When I told her that the system wasn’t recognizing me as a business class passenger for free WiFi she said to keep trying as she couldn’t possibly help me during dinner service. So I had to wait an hour for a drink and for her to finally give me the override code, SASMAR34, which continued to work for free WiFi on all of the flights for the trip. … [Read more...] about DDF Adventure Photo DO Trip Notes Part 1: Heading For Svalbard And The Far North
Moishe has run some amazing photo workshops across several continents. I traveled on one of his workshops to breathtaking Arctic Norway and Svalbard in 2016, home to the closest commercial airport to the North Pole. We stayed in Longyearbyen, the northernmost city in the world and went snowmobiling into polar bear country, went dogsledding, and experienced the Northern Lights. Truly an unforgettable experience! … [Read more...] about Final Day To Register! Join Me And Over 40 DansDeals Readers On A Once-In-A-Lifetime Kosher Catered Trip To Antarctica!
