Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookIt seems like a big company reports a data breach every other day. Last week I wrote about the Equifax data breach settlement. Capital One announced today that they experienced a breach that affected 100 million people in the US. 33 year old Paige Thompson has been arrested in connection with the breach. Capital One says that they believe it is unlikely that she disseminated the data or used it for fraud. No credit card account numbers or log-in credentials were compromised Over 99 percent of Social Security numbers were not compromised. Compromised information included data that Capital One collects at the time it receives credit card applications: Names, addresses, zip codes/postal codes, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, and self-reported income. Credit scores, credit limits, balances, payment history, contact information Fragments of transaction data from a total of 23 days during 2016, 2017 and 2018 About … [Read more...] about Step Right Up: Capital One Is The Latest To Report A Data Breach

Step Right Up: Doordash Is The Latest To Report A Data Breach
Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookCompanies just can’t seem to keep our data safe. As long as the penalties are nothing more than a slap on the wrist, that won’t change either. Doordash announced that users who joined on or before 4/5/18 have had their information stolen. The stolen information includes names, email addresses, delivery addresses, order history, phone numbers, as well as hashed passwords. Full credit card numbers were not part of the breach. The driver’s licenses of 100,000 delivery workers were also breached. Doordash doesn’t believe that the hackers can access the passwords, but they’re encouraging people to change their passwords. I first wrote about DoorDash before 4/5/18, so check when you signed up, change your password, and as always, stay vigilant about checking your credit cards and credit report for fraud. … [Read more...] about Step Right Up: Doordash Is The Latest To Report A Data Breach
Trip Report: United DO 2012 In Chicago
-Find more articles like this by clicking on the “Trip Notes” tab on top of the DansDeals banner at the top of this site. I flew last week to Chicago to experience the tail end of Star MegaDo 4. Hundreds of frequent flyer enthusiasts from forums like Flyertalk and Milepoint get together and fly around the world together and meet with various airline and hotel executives. Star of course refers to Star Alliance. A DO (pronounced like the word do or due) is simply a get-together while a MegaDo is a really big get together. Space to attend these events is always quite limited and there is a cost from $1,000 up to $5,000 depending on how much of the event you want to attend (domestic or international+domestic) and what class you’ll be sitting in on the plane. Participants were treated to flying a brand new United 787 Dreamliner among many other goodies. I was invited to attend the United portion of the DO in Chicago for free so that’s what I’ll talk about. … [Read more...] about Trip Report: United DO 2012 In Chicago
What Will You Do With Your Google Fi Travel Gift Cards?
Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookIn November, I wrote about an amazing deal to buy a Google Pixel phone with Google Fi service and get travel gift cards equal to the amount paid for the phone. Even better, it qualified for a $100 AMEX Offer, that made the deal even more amazing. I just got my rewards link and I can choose to split the amount or use the full amount for Airbnb, Delta, Hotels.com, and Southwest gift cards. That’s even better than I thought it would be! If you have a $1,000 rewards card you can choose to save it all, redeem it all, or redeem part of it now and then come back later to redeem more of it! But best of all, there is no deadline to select the gift cards you want, so you can just wait until you’re ready to travel and redeem it then. Don’t forget that you must keep Google Fi active for 120 days in order to avoid being charged for the price of the gift cards. However I’ll switch the Pixel to another phone service at … [Read more...] about What Will You Do With Your Google Fi Travel Gift Cards?

DDF Adventure Photo DO Trip Notes Part 1: Heading For Svalbard And The Far North
-Find dozens of trip notes like this one by clicking on the “Trip Notes” tab on top of the DansDeals banner at the top of this site.-Follow me on the road and at home on Instagram @DansDeals The flights booked by the 5 DDF members on the DDF Adventure Photo DO: Another perspective of just my own flights that I booked shows just how far north we would travel. Longyearbyen, located in the Svalbard Islands, is the closest city in the world to the North Pole: The DansDeals Forums, much like DansDeals.com, started as a fluke. Before I started blogging I used to post deals to a forum for bochurim (Hebrew for guys or bachelors). I started blogging about miles and bargains in 2004, when I spent a year teaching in Brazil as part of the Chabad bochur shlichus program, on the decidedly non-user friendly URL of ctownbochur.blogspot.com. Eventually it became ctownbochur.com and then ctowndeals.com. In 2006, I tried … [Read more...] about DDF Adventure Photo DO Trip Notes Part 1: Heading For Svalbard And The Far North
