Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookIt seems like a big company reports a data breach every other day. Last week I wrote about the Equifax data breach settlement. Capital One announced today that they experienced a breach that affected 100 million people in the US. 33 year old Paige Thompson has been arrested in connection with the breach. Capital One says that they believe it is unlikely that she disseminated the data or used it for fraud. No credit card account numbers or log-in credentials were compromised Over 99 percent of Social Security numbers were not compromised. Compromised information included data that Capital One collects at the time it receives credit card applications: Names, addresses, zip codes/postal codes, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, and self-reported income. Credit scores, credit limits, balances, payment history, contact information Fragments of transaction data from a total of 23 days during 2016, 2017 and 2018 About … [Read more...] about Step Right Up: Capital One Is The Latest To Report A Data Breach

Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookCompanies just can’t seem to keep our data safe. As long as the penalties are nothing more than a slap on the wrist, that won’t change either. Doordash announced that users who joined on or before 4/5/18 have had their information stolen. The stolen information includes names, email addresses, delivery addresses, order history, phone numbers, as well as hashed passwords. Full credit card numbers were not part of the breach. The driver’s licenses of 100,000 delivery workers were also breached. Doordash doesn’t believe that the hackers can access the passwords, but they’re encouraging people to change their passwords. I first wrote about DoorDash before 4/5/18, so check when you signed up, change your password, and as always, stay vigilant about checking your credit cards and credit report for fraud. … [Read more...] about Step Right Up: Doordash Is The Latest To Report A Data Breach
Never Miss Another Deal - Follow DansDeals on FacebookOne pet peeve of mine as online banking becomes more and more prevalent is that we can’t easily search for past transactions. AMEX has long had the ability to view and search through 2 years of transaction data. However, Chase only provided a meager 3 months of transaction data. Longer than that and you had to download PDFs from each month. Sure, there are 3rd party programs that can also aggregate your spending, but this is something that all banks should provide in 2019. Chase has now stepped up their game and they also offer 2 years of transaction data on their site. I’d love to see something like 7 years become the standard, but 2 years sure is better than 3 months! HT: Stephan … [Read more...] about Chase Now Displays 2 Years Of Transaction Data!
